The Fur Trade

"There is no kind way to rip the skin off animals' backs. Anyone who wears any fur shares the blame for the torture and gruesome deaths of millions of animals each year."

Natalie Imbruglia

Animals are not fabric. They are living, thinking, feeling individuals. Despite huge opposition to the fur trade, each year more than 75 million animals worldwide are trapped or farmed for the fur industry so they can be worn as fashion garments.

Since the horrors of the fur industry have been widely publicised most people are aware of some of the issues with fur, but the reality is often even more cruel than many us can ever imagine.

SAFETalk blog: Possum fur - an ethical choice?

  • Consumer choices make a huge difference for animals.
    • Avoid all fur products and stores selling fur.
    • Do not be fooled by labels – fur can be found in fashion accessories and even pet toys.
  • Spread the word! Tell your friends and family about the cruel reality of fur and ask them not to purchase these products.
