The SAFE Christchurch office needs help!

In February 2011 the devastating earthquake that hit Christchurch also forced our SAFE team from its inner city office. The building suffered damage and is still inside the inaccessible red zone 

Immediately after the earthquake our team worked from home and organised Animal Aid, a programme to help abandoned and vulnerable earthquake-affected animals. Later, we found a temporary office on the outskirts of Christchurch in the hope that we could return to our old office in the near future. Eighteen months have now passed and, sadly, we are still working from this office. We have now been told that we will not be able to return to our central city office and the time has come to move to more suitable premises. Our current office is the size of a small bedroom, and with five people crammed in we could be accused of factory farming our own staff!

The loss of so many Christchurch buildings means that it is very difficult to find a new (and affordable) office for our team. We are looking for a sizable office that has plenty of storage space for all our resources, and we would like to be on the city fringe so that our volunteers can easily visit us.

Our team has put up with very difficult working conditions, not to speak of the thousands of aftershocks (we are experiencing a 4.3 shake as I am writing this!) and a city demolished around us. It is time for us to move on and we need your help!
