Attracting attention in round the bays Auckland

The Auckland SAFE team did something a bit different this year: running Round the Bays dressed as six hens while carrying their own battery cage. The six dedicated volunteers braved the heat to weave their way through the crowds, gaining a huge level of attention from other competitors. Mayor Len Brown also pointed out the SAFE contingent as they passed the start line!

The colourful team attracted a lot of attention throughout the run with many of the public taking photos of the hens in the cage on mobile phones. Lots of conversations were overheard with people talking about the cruelty of keeping hens confined in tiny cages.

Auckland Volunteer Coordinator Marianne Macdonald commented, “We couldn’t have done such an eye-catching event without these enthusiastic people. Everyone said they really enjoyed themselves. We already have exciting plans for bigger and better next year!”
