VEGETARIAN QUIZ MASTERS
Did you know that a snail travels at 58cm per hour? That they eat more ice cream in Alaska than anywhere else in America and that Ugly Betty's smile is insured for $10 million? No? Well neither did we...but this didn't stop the SAFE team from winning the recent Christchurch Vegetarian Society Quiz night.

SAFE CENTRES ACTIVE AROUND NEW ZEALAND
Campaign officer Sacha Dowell reports on some of the things our wonderful SAFE volunteer groups around the country have been getting up to lately... • Nelson SAFE held a stall at the Festival Of Opportunities in late February to raise awareness of animal rights issues and to sell merchandise. Our ‘Love Pigs not Pork' bags were popular as always and many vegetarian recipe booklets were handed out. A SAFE promotional video dubbed to a Moby soundtrack attracted a lot of interest. Soyworks kindly sponsored the stall.

INSPIRATIONAL TEAM VEGAN
SAFE was represented by staff members Amanda Sorrenson and Eliot Pryor in Team Vegan's first ever Round the Bays run in Auckland recently. Wearing distinctive green racing tops to stand out among about 70,000 others, Team Vegan tore up the track and had a great time doing it.

SAFE AT WILDFOODS FESTIVAL 2008
SAFE organised another very successful vegan food stall at the 2008 Wildfoods Festival in Hokitika. Meaty Vegan Gonads (deep-fried battered soy sausages and soy balls) were on the menu again and all 700 items sold out well before the end of the day! Christchurch SAFE volunteers were joined by our fantastic Greymouth crew to make and sell the tasty vegan challenge to hungry festival-goers.

SUPPORT IN INVERCARGILL
Invercargill coordinator Emily Beale and SAFE volunteer Anne Michels have been working hard down south to promote the cause. Prior to SAFE's annual appeal they were focused on making the organisation as well known as possible. Now these two have managed to secure incredible support from their local environment centre.
