A SONG TO FREE PIGS
We are very pleased to introduce a remarkable and inspiring young woman, Siobhan Davidson. Siobhan is just 14 years of age and has autism. Her friend David Coleclough, a musician, says during a recent visit with her family Siobhan mentioned that she had written a song to help the pigs. "She is just passionate about pigs," says David. "She told me that she had written a song about the cruelty that pigs have to suffer and that it was called 'How Do You Think The Pigs Feel'," he says.

SPREADING THE SAFE WORD
SAFE's dedicated team of volunteers has been out in force in Tauranga, Whangarei, Oamaru, Dargaville, Kerikeri and Auckland! The focus has been educating the public on the plight of factory-farmed animals through stall and outreach events. Kerikeri SAFE held two stalls and raised over $150 in donations and sales, while Oamaru volunteers dressed up in costumes and took part in their local Victorian Fête (including marching in parade!). Nice one!

SHEEP FIND A NEW HOME
Our plea to save seven sheep has been answered with the woolly herd now happily enjoying their new home. We had only just appealed to our supporters through the bulletin (#16) to adopt the woolly flock of seven, when Wendy and Dick offered to assist. SAFE successfully paired up the two couples and within days the wary flock were en route to their new Waikato home. Wendy said, "The sheep have arrived safely and are enjoying our lush paddocks. They will be shorn soon and join the rest of the small flock. One is quite a talker and on the journey home told us exactly what she thought of moving. However she did share our apples so I think she likes us. Tracy was sad to see them go."

DOWN SOUTH SAFE TALKS
Some equate a fear of public speaking alongside a fear of death. The sight of a microphone and podium can turn the knees of some SAFE volunteers to jelly. Until now! There were five very plucky individuals who attended the SAFE speaker training workshop in Dunedin last month. One of the most challenging aspects of the training day was an impromptu two-minute talk on a SAFE-related topic given out at random.

Rupert the rooster featured in a previous SAFE bulletin, after being abandoned on the side of a busy Christchurch road. Things are very different now!
