GOING VEGETARIAN. THE 30 DAY CHALLENGE
SAFE volunteer Hannah Muir shares her experiences of going vegetarian. My Vegetarian Experience A couple of months ago I decided to become a more conscious citizen. One of the ways I chose to do this was by taking a Vegetarian Challenge. As a child I was vegetarian but since then I had lost my way. Challenging myself to thirty days of vegetarianism, and a further seven days as a vegan, was a really wonderful and enlightening experience. Since then I have remained a vegetarian but continue to eat vegan foods two or three days a week.

SONIA CHRISTIAN has a heart-warming story of her experience collecting in Christchurch. She called SAFE and spoke with fundraising coordinator, Amanda Broughton, who recounts Sonia's story. Sonia was in Cathedral Square, standing near some young people busking, listening to the melodies of their guitar whilst holding her collection bucket. Sonia says most people ignored her as they walked past. She assumed too busy with last minute Christmas shopping to spare a second to donate.

"She told me that she had written a song about the cruelty that pigs have to suffer and that it was called 'How Do You Think The Pigs Feel'," he says.

SHEEP FIND A NEW HOME
Our plea to save seven sheep has been answered with the woolly herd now happily enjoying their new home. We had only just appealed to our supporters through the bulletin (#16) to adopt the woolly flock of seven, when Wendy and Dick offered to assist. SAFE successfully paired up the two couples and within days the wary flock were en route to their new Waikato home. Wendy said, "The sheep have arrived safely and are enjoying our lush paddocks. They will be shorn soon and join the rest of the small flock. One is quite a talker and on the journey home told us exactly what she thought of moving. However she did share our apples so I think she likes us. Tracy was sad to see them go."
