THE HUMAN ZOO

Students from the Massey University's Department of Communication and Journalism's Public Relations course, with assistance from SAFE, have highlighted the negative implications of caging animals. The display, called the Human Zoo, was originally based on a SAFE campaign entitled ‘Circuses and Zoos'.

According to Loren Maxwell, the idea behind the campaign was to increase awareness about SAFE and what they do to help animals.

"We decided to turn the tables and put people into cages to demonstrate the brutality of zoos" said Loren. "Many animals are exploited this way and we wanted to increase awareness about this issue to the students and staff at Massey University".

article"People were really interested in what we were doing and we were able to give them information to take away and read to help them get a better understand of what we are trying to achieve today," said Loren.

SAFE, who provided the team with a lot of support and printed material, were valuable in getting the campaign off the ground.

SAFE is a non-profit organisation who works to save animals from exploitation by increasing awareness around the world through campaigns such as battery hens and pig factories.

SAFE applauds those involved for their terrific effort. It looked fantastic!
