SUPPORT IN INVERCARGILL

Invercargill coordinator Emily Beale and SAFE volunteer Anne Michels have been working hard down south to promote the cause. Prior to SAFE's annual appeal they were focused on making the organisation as well known as possible. Now these two have managed to secure incredible support from their local environment centre.

Situated in a busy arcade in the central city, the local environment centre offered SAFE the use of a huge window display space. "Anne and I marched down armed with boxes of SAFE display material and each took a window to highlight battery hens and factory pig farming. We let our creativity take control," reports Emily.

They did such an awesome job that the centre asked them to keep the display up for longer than originally planned. "The response from the public over the LovePigs bags has been incredible. The centre has been so busy with orders that we have even taken our own supply for them to sell on our behalf," says Emily. "2007 was a fantastic year and this year is going to be even better."

Emily has a message for the rest of the SAFE teams. "On behalf of the team in the deep south, good luck to SAFE crews around New Zealand. Keep an eye on us down in the south because we are going to be big and busy!"

Their next meeting is this Wednesday, 12 March at 73 Janet Street at 7.30pm. Email invercargill@safe.org.nz for more info.
