STUDENT SUPPORT

People often ask SAFE for suggestions on ways they can support campaigns to help animals. If you're a student at school or university it may be easier than you think!

Last month Debbie Mitchell, a student at Massey University in Wellington (studying PR), was directed by her lecturer to stage an event for a not-for-profit organisation. Debbie and her group have a soft spot for animals so decided to tackle the issue of battery hen farming. Debbie explains "We managed to get a life-size battery hen cage from SAFE with two realistic battery hens inside. SAFE also sent us a DVD that we projected onto a screen at the event for people to watch."

Stall 2Although Debbie said that while student interest varied the group managed to discuss what was wrong with battery farming and give away loads of leaflets to those interested.

SAFE would like to thank Debbie and her classmates for choosing to highlight this issue as part of their studies.

Stall1If you're a student and want to focus your studies on animal issues, SAFE may be able to help. Contact SAFE education officer Nichola Kriek for advice and assistance at: nichola@safe.org.nz
