SCHOOLS LAUNCH HEALTHY FOOD PROGRAMME

It is not compulsory but Auckland's Northcote College thinks teaching children how to prepare and cook healthy food should be. The government agrees and has issued food and nutrition guidelines to early childhood centres and now recipes have been sent to 1500 schools to get young people cooking simple, healthy meals.

Teenage SAFE volunteer, vegan and student, Yasmina Gillies, was interviewed by TV3 news in a report on the issue. She says she's proof that there is a questioning teenage market out there that needs helpful advice on all dietary options.

"Because I've become vegan I'm more aware of the choices I make and I'm more aware of the things I eat and what's in them," says Yasmina.

SAFE extends special congratulations to Yasmina for doing such a great job speaking out in support of veganism.
