SAFE STALLS

SAFE stall at Eco Fest

Last week the environmental group at Auckland University held a four-day Eco Festival on campus. Each day brought a different theme with guest speakers, debates, music, dancing, documentaries and free food. SAFE was invited to have a stall on two of the days with the first being on the day featuring Biodiversity and Organics, the second on that featuring Climate Change.

Many university students were interested in SAFE's work and in helping to support our campaigns and becoming volunteers. A personal highlight noted by Caro, SAFE's stall organiser was "On the first day we were set up right next to the stage where a meat versus vegetarian debate was about to take place. The meat club participants were sitting at a table right in front of SAFE's display boards and they all read our information about cruel pig farming methods while they waited for the debate to start. Their arguments for eating meat were poor and I feel that from listening to the vegetarian side speak and reading our material they left the debate better educated and maybe even considering a vegetarian diet themselves".

SAFE at Women's Expo - Hawkes Bay

Local SAFE volunteers ran a successful stall at the Women's Lifestyle Expo in Hawkes Bay recently.

Over $250 was raised in addition to signing up new members and volunteers. SAFE volunteer and stall organiser, Donna Powell, reported that Expo attendees were very receptive to SAFE's message and that she felt they made a difference - some people pledged to stop eating factory farmed products! Stall volunteers spoke to lots of people about the intensive pig farming issue and handed out plenty of information and lobby postcards. A big thank you to Donna and the volunteers for running a great stall.
