SAFE RESUMES CIRCUS CAMPAIGN |
SAFE campaigners converged on Hamilton on Saturday 14th June on Jumbo’s behalf. Over 20 people joined together in a peaceful protest to ask the public not to go to the circus. Local resident Jay, joined the demonstration after seeing Jumbo standing, swaying from side to side in the same spot for 3 hours, and was one of many who complained to the local SPCA.
“While it’s a shame we have to start this campaign again, we had a great response from passersby today,” said Eliot Pryor , SAFE’s campaign officer. “Ninety-nine percent were receptive and there were lots of toots from drivers.”
While many people were driving past to view our demonstration, the circus itself was not attracting many people.
“We sent a clear message to the circus that the use of exotic animals is out of date and has no future in New Zealand,” says Eliot.
