SAFE AT WILDFOODS FESTIVAL 2008

SAFE organised another very successful vegan food stall at the 2008 Wildfoods Festival in Hokitika. Meaty Vegan Gonads (deep-fried battered soy sausages and soy balls) were on the menu again and all 700 items sold out well before the end of the day! Christchurch SAFE volunteers were joined by our fantastic Greymouth crew to make and sell the tasty vegan challenge to hungry festival-goers.

Wildfoods07"Holding a vegan food stall at Wildfoods demonstrates that to be ‘wild,' it doesn't mean the food has to be parts of slaughtered animals! It was a fantastic way to get our message across that vegetarian food is neither boring or tasteless," said SAFE's campaign officer Sacha Dowell.

Leaflets were handed out with every ‘gonad' sold to help educate people on the benefits of vegetarianism and the costs of eating meat.

Sacha reports many people loved the food and one farmer admitted that if we kept making the food so good we would put him out of business!

"Many people reported to us that our food was the best-tasting at the festival and many came back for seconds! Thanks to our volunteers who worked hard on the stall. We'll definitely be back at Wildfoods next year with even more Meaty Vegan Gonads!" says Sacha.
