IN THE LAST MONTH OR TWO...

SAFE has been extremely busy accomplishing its goals. The following are activities and successes organised and staged over the past month.

 

• the production and launch of SAFE's first television commercial on pig farming, which has appeared on TV3 over the past three weeks. 

• a presentation of SAFE's work to over 300 key animal welfare and rights representatives in Australia at the Animals Australia inaugural symposium.

• a successful charity art auction which raised over $30,000 in proceeds to be used for the LovePigs campaign.

• a presentation by SAFE's education officer Nichola Kriek on SAFE's Animals and Us humane education programme to prominent educators, welfarists and teachers attending an Australian seminar on humane values within the education system.

• successful applications for funding to purchase a powerful laptop and other equipment to make our work easier.

• at least 25 stalls or attendances at festivals around the country including the Mind Body and Spirit Festival, Grey Lynn Festival and the Eco Expo.

• SAFE attendance at all three Vegetarian Expos held in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. In addition campaign director Hans Kriek presented a talk at the Expo in the capital city.

• a national appeal coordinators workshop last month attended by many of SAFE's North Island appeal coordinators as part of the lead up to the appeal later this month.

• a large public event in support of the LovePigs campaign in downtown Auckland involving SAFE campaigners from all around the country as well as high-profile actress Nicola Kawana lending her support.

• SAFE's battery hen humane education resource was heralded as a brilliant resource and was included by WSPA international in their database of the most useful resources available.

• street appeal preparations are well underway including sending out invites to over 9000 supporters and beginning to telephone over 5000 members and supporters.

• articles and stories about SAFE appeared in many publications and newspapers highlighting the importance SAFE has within the community.

• an effective campaign against New Zealand's first ever indoor rodeo which resulted in widespread media attention and a brilliant current affairs item on Campbell Live and TV3 news.
