SAFE joined demonstrators outside the Japanese Embassy in Christchurch recently to commemorate Save Japan Dolphins Day.
Twenty SAFE volunteers and dolphin activists held placards and handed out leaflets to protest against the slaughter of thousands of dolphins in Japan that takes place every year between September and March. The wanton slaughter of dolphins in Japan has been polarised after the release of the international prize-winning motion picture, The Cove. The Cove has now been screened globally, including in Japan earlier this year. Japan initially banned the film but this was later overturned due to public pressure.
