This week marks yet another exciting and significant accomplishment for SAFE - the release of the third humane education resource tailored specifically for New Zealand secondary schools. Animals on Show is a 232-page, world-class resource that critically examines animals in captivity. SAFE is staging a high-profile launch, ‘Speaking for animals on show’, at the Auckland Museum (7 Nov), which includes one of the world’s most accomplished directors, Michael Apted. Michael will share with us his experiences with wild gorillas while filming Gorillas in the Mist.

FOOD, INC. PASSES
Finally a film you can really sink your teeth into! The acclaimed documentary, Food, Inc. directed by Robert Kenner, draws upon the searing reportage of authors Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) and Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma), to explore how modern developments in food production pose grave risks to our health and environment. There are stories of heartbreak and outrage, but the film carefully channels these emotions towards opportunities for activism. We have five double passes to give away to Food, Inc. which opens in cinemas on 22 October. To enter, simply email us with your name and postal details. ENTER NOW

Do you ever wish you had made the connection between diet and how it affects the planet at an earlier age? Well, now there’s a book on the market that’s helping young people do just that. This one-of-a-kind book was developed by Ruby Roth after she couldn’t find any books aimed at children that discussed the impacts of what we eat. ”Children show incredible interest and insight,” says Roth about her young readers, and helping them understand where our food comes from couldn’t be easier with this beautiful, fully illustrated book that’s a must-have for any age.
