Festival in Hokitika. “Two years running our Meaty Vegan Gonads have been a huge hit”, says campaign director Hans Kriek.
“We again sold out and gave out over 800 leaflets on the benefits of a vegetarian diet and had a ball doing it!”

PROTESTS TO HELP SAVE THE EARTH
A national meat conference celebrating 125 years of exporting meat is planned at the end of the month in Wellington.
The two-day event brings industry leaders together with business partners, politicians and even celebrities to celebrate
eating meat. SAFE and other animal rights campaigners intends to remind them of what a meat-based diet really means for
animals, human health and the environment. SAFE plans to launch www.QuitMeat.org.nz designed to highlight the
detrimental effects of meat consumption. For protest info contact

DID YOU KNOW?
The Year of the Pig
Legend has it that in ancient times, Buddha asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. Twelve came, and
Buddha named a year after each one. He announced that the people born in each animal's year would have some of that
animal's personality. Those born in pig years tend to have excellent manners, make and keep friends, work very hard,
and appreciate luxury. They are very loving and make loyal partners. SAFE is calling upon people to make this year pig
friendly by giving up pig meat as a positive way to celebrate the pig.
