in the media
One advantage of taking a short break from producing these bulletins is that we have loads of good things to report. It also serves to remind us just how much is being done to advance animal advocacy in New Zealand. SAFE’s NoCages campaign continues to gain momentum and in recent months television, newspaper, magazine advertisements and billboards have appeared, thousands are lobbying their MPs using ecards, we launched a petition aimed to supermarkets to stop selling cage eggs and SAFE and the RNZSPCA joined forces to protest. We even took on the egg industry’s Egg Guy! Of course we must give a special mention to our most notable hen defender Rachel Manley. Rachel is our Wellington Coordinator who has donned a chicken costume at every opportunity. She has plunged into freezing water, skied down a Queenstown mountain and skated on ice, all to get the message out there. It is working too, Rachel!
SAFE IS seeking four eager new Board members, as well as a Chair, to be part of the nine individuals who oversee the organisation at a governance level. Find out if this sounds like you.
OUR FUNKY, chicken-loving Wellington team took their protest against battery hen cages to an entirely new level... on ice skates!
TWO HIGHLY successful vegetarian expos held in Christchurch and Wellington to celebrate World Vegetarian Day, demonstrated that the more caring and green lifestyle is proving extremely popular.
WEARING TWO new huggable and colourful costumes, as well as our giant chick mascot and funky t-shirts, SAFE gave away free hugs to Auckland shoppers to celebrate World Hug a Vegetarian day.
WE THINK Holly O’Connor, aged 7, is a vegetarian star!
