This Saturday is election day. An important day for everybody in New Zealand, including the animals. What would a party that really had the interests of the animals at heart, look like? It might look a bit like the Party for the Animals, with policies that actually benefit the animals, rather than policies that ’harm them less’. Before you vote, please see where your party stands on animal welfare. Other important things to check out, if you missed them, are two current affairs programmes on battery hens. In a New Zealand first, both programmes debating battery hens, screened on the same day, at same time! Bad Eggs, on TV One’s Sunday programme was a shocking expose of battery hen farming in New Zealand, while Chicken Out on TV3’s 60 Minutes looked at those investigating factory farms and rescuing animals. Both are a must view.
