New Zealand debut screening a sell-out success!

POSTER
SAFE hosted the first New Zealand screening of Earthlings in Auckland recently. This proved to be a highly successful event, with a sell-out crowd of over 220 people. People were prepared to sit on the floor in the aisles to watch one of the most confronting and emotionally challenging films ever produced that highlights the exploitation of animals.

Earthlings is a feature length award-winning documentary about humanity's absolute dependence on animals for pets, food, clothing, entertainment and scientific research. The film has been described as the Passion of the Christ of animal rights. It is highly confronting, challenging and provocative. It is a documentary not for the faint-hearted. While a handfull of people had to leave during the film due to its graphic content most of the people remained for the duration.

SAFE sent review copies to over 35 different media, as a result of which the film was mentioned in the Sunday Star-times and reviewed in the New Zealand Listener. The general feeling is summed up in this response from one filmgoer:

"The film has made me want to be a better person and renewed this for many in more ways than just animal rights - I felt ashamed to be part of the Human Race last night and understand why you feel so passionately about the cause - you can count me in and I will be doing my best to make the difference of this one person in the world! Thank you for the opportunity of enlightenment."

Many are echoing this sentiment. Earthlings has screened at international film festivals overseas and is backed by award-winning, A-list personalities such as Woody Harrelson, Moby and Joaquin Phoenix. Narrated by Phoenix, he says it's one film that sparks dialogue: "Of all the films I have ever made, this is the one that gets people talking the most. For every one person who sees Earthlings, they will tell three."

SAFE is hoping to see this film included in the next international film festival based on the fact there is clearly an audience. SAFE would like to thank everyone involved, particularly Debbie Matthews, for ensuring this became the outstanding success it was.

"This is the single most powerful and informative movie about society's treatment of animals. A must see for anyone who cares enough to know"
Woody Harrelson
