SEAL OF APPROVAL!

websiteSAFE congratulates British-based organisation Respect for Animals for achieving an EU-wide ban on the sale of seal products.

The General Affairs Council voted overwhelmingly, without any opposition or debate, in favour of the EU seal-product ban last month. It is understood the ban will have a major impact on the annual Canadian seal hunt, which is the largest, most brutal slaughter of marine mammals in the world.

The European Union has previously been the main market for seal pelts, but the last two years has seen a massive decline in their value from $140 to $20 per pelt. This year's seal hunt in Canada ended 250,000 short of its quota as a result of the discussions in the European parliament.

Amazing job guys!
